Despite his deepening opium addiction, Coleridge embarked on an ambitious project to revise his drama Osorio, which he had composed decades before. Remorse, the resulting work, bears the marks of Coleridge's critical study of Shakespeare's plays. In 1813 the play was performed in London to favorable reviews.
